Sarah Louisa Goddard, was born May 25, 1825, in the town of Clayton, a daughter of Nathan F. and Matilda Goddard.  Sarah married Augustus Tolman, the son of Ebenezer Tolman (1784-1875) and Hopeful Randall (died 1845), on February 16, 1853.  Mr. and Mrs. Tolman were the parents of a son and an adopted daughter, Charles A. and Luella A.  The later died August 25, 1897, in Ogdensburg.  Together the Tolmans lived on the homestead where Augustus' father settled in the year 1818.  Augustus died December 18, 1888, on the old family homestead, and Sarah survived him more than three years, passing away at the same place, April 15, 1892.
Charles Augustus Tolman the only son of Augustus and Sarah was born November 4, 1853 on the same farm that his grandfather located and which his mother lived all of her married life.
