PAINTING IS EXPLAINED State officials see Champoeg work by Theodore Gegoux Salem, Oregon .. Jan 5. - (Special) - State officials and employees assembled in the executive department earlier today and heard an explanation of a painting by Theodore Gegoux depicting the historical meeting at Champoeg on May 2, 1843, frequently refered to as the Birth of Oregon. Mr. Gegoux who was born in Canada spent more than five years in completeing the painting. An effort will be made to have the legislature appropriate $15,000 with which to purchase the work. |
