BIRTH OF OREGON IS SHOWN BY PAINTING

Salem, January 3. - The painting by Theodore Gegoux, French artist, depicting scenes surrounding the founding of the Pacific Northwest as American territory at Champoeg, was brought to Salem today and is to be exhibited in the office of Governor Pierce.  The painting, as framed is approximately 14 feet in length and is valued at between $10,000 and $15,000 by the artist, who spent five years in its creation.  While no definite plans have been made for its disposal, it is understood that the artist hopes to sell the painting to the state.
