Theodore Gegoux

George Himes to Theo Gegoux, August 21, 1919
August 21, 1919
Mr. Theo. Gegoux,
Route 5,
Aurora, Oregon,
Dear Mr. Gegoux:
Mr. D'Arcy was written to the day you were here, but he was not in Salem then.  An answer has just been received.  Here is what he says: "If our friend Gegoux desires to pay back the five dollars, rather than offend him I would accept it.  At the time I handled the amount to him did not expect it back.  It was given to him to help him along."
That was my recollection at the time.  The date that he gave you the $5.00 was January 27, 1916.
And I must say, in this connection, I am puzzled beyond all explanation to understand how you got the idea that I compelled you to sign a note as an evidence that you owed that amount.  But no matter about that now.  The enclosed memorandum shows the amount that I consider that you owe me, there were a number of small items that might be added, but I waive them all.  The date is given on the memo.
Copies of the other two documents, which we both signed in duplicate, I enclose, with my signature on the lower line of Document "B. "and your agreement with me, with J.S. Greenfield as a witness to your signature.
Yours truly,
(Himes)
Please acknowledge receipt.
It is likely that I shall go out of the city tomorrow or next day to attend to matters east of the Cascade Mountains, and may not return before September 1st.
