The "moonlight effect" which Théodore Gégoux recreated in such paintings as "The Salute" and "Mansion on the River" is clearly seen in the detail of this painting.  Also seen is Vernet's classic treatment of flame in the night. Gégoux is also reported to have painted nocturnal images of fire scenes, none have been located as of yet for viewing here.
